How does SyndiGate determine the content needs of its customers?
SyndiGate's customers conduct ongoing interviews with their end-users to determine the content and functionality they need. This information, plus requests for specific publications, is conveyed back to SyndiGate. Generally, end-users say they need fast, relevant and reliable answers. Since they are frequently trying to learn all they can about a company or topic, they need access to the complete text of thousands of publications.
How much of my content should I send SyndiGate?
Sending a complete version of every issue of your publication increases the likelihood that your content will be used by our customers' end-users. You benefit if you send us as many articles from your publication as you can. The full text of every article is preferred, including articles from special and supplementary editions, and any unique editorial content from your website.
How soon after publication is best?
Timely publications, those delivered immediately upon or before publication fare best because SyndiGate's customers are looking for good, quality news and inforation as it happens. A delay in content delivery diminishes your opportunity to capture readers, who may have satisfied their needs with similar articles from more timely publications. In addition, sources that are included in current awareness services generally have much higher usage than those that are not.
I have my content available in several formats; which format will get my content into SyndiGate's customer databases quickest?
The preferred format, NewsML, is based on eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and is an established standard in the content industry. New content supplied in this format is likely to be introduced on our customers' products more quickly than content sent in other formats. Ask your publisher relations manager for the specifications of each format.
Does delivery method matter?
The recommended delivery method is to send content to SyndiGate via file transfer protocol (FTP). SyndiGate will issue a confidential IP address, a username and a password, which will allow the provider to log on and push data to our data acquisition servers. Ask your publisher relations manager for details.
FTP- (File Transfer Protocol) – This is the best method of data delivery. SyndiGate will provide you with a link to an FTP directory, and if you use Internet Explorer as your web browser you just need to copy and paste the link into the address line. Then just drag and drop your files onto the blank screen. Please note, if you use an alternate web browser you need ftp instructions for that particular browser; a username/ password will be provided.
E-Mail Attachment – Data files can be sent as an email attachment directly to our edata department at content@syndigate.info . We can accept email attachments up to 10MB in size. Typically, we cannot receive zipped files as attachments due to our email filters. We receive hundreds of emails, so please be specific when referencing your title (no abbreviations).
Publisher’s FTP Site/Website Retrieval - We are happy to download from your FTP site or Website if you are willing to provide access for us to do so.
Is it possible to FTP sample data to Syndigate?
Yes, SyndiGate has FTP sites designed to receive test data. Your publisher relations manager can provide you with details upon request.
How deep of an archive should I send?
You're not required to provide an archive, but some of SyndiGate's customers can generate revenue from your historical data.
Can Syndigate use the indexing I apply to my stories?
Article-level indexing applied by the publisher greatly improves our ability to accurately index articles. Indexing is used by end-users to pinpoint highly relevant articles on a particular topic.
How are deletions and corrections handled?
If you need to amend your content for legal reasons, please send an email to your publisher relations manager.
What do I need to tell SyndiGate about my content?
An informative description of your publication(s) will increase your opportunity with SyndiGate's customers. Publication descriptions are often available within our customers' products and are used by end-users to determine the sources they will search. A good description increases the likelihood that end-users will find and search your publication.
